This historic bottling of Courvoisier VSOP, dating from the 1970s, carries the legendary moniker 'The Brandy of Napoleon'—a title rooted in the historic relationship between the house and the French Emperor, who famously took cases of Courvoisier with him into exile on St. Helena. Bottled during an era when cognac houses maintained exceptionally high standards for their VSOP reserves, this release showcases the traditional craftsmanship of Jarnac. It is distilled from grapes harvested across the premier crus of the Cognac region, primarily Ugni Blanc, and double-distilled in classic Charentais copper alembic stills. The spirit was aged in hand-selected French oak casks from the Limousin and Tronçais forests, resulting in a mature, complex profile rich with notes of dried stone fruits, warm baking spices, old leather, and a delicate rancio characteristic of older bottlings.

Maison Courvoisier blev officielt grundlagt i Jarnac i 1828 af Félix Courvoisier og Jules Gallois – med rødder i en spiritushandel oprindeligt etableret af Emmanuel Courvoisier og Louis Gallois – og regnes i dag som et af de historiske 'fire store' cognachuse. Courvoisier har til huse ved bredden af Charente-floden og baserer primært sin produktion på langsigtede aftaler med lokale vinbønder frem for egne, vidtstrakte vinmarker. Huset udvælger druer fra fire crus – Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies og Fins Bois – og destillerer vinene både med og uden bærmen for at opnå en præcis aromatisk balance. Modningen foregår på tætårede egetræsfade fra Tronçais og Limousin, hvilket skaber husets karakteristiske, livlige og florale stil kendt som 'Cognac in Blossom'. I dag er Courvoisier ejet af Campari Group og ledes af Master Blender Thibaut Hontanx, som viderefører arven med historiske cuvéer som Napoleon, VSOP og XO Royal side om side med eksklusive samlerudgaver som Mizunara Edition og L'Essence de Courvoisier.
