Craigellachie is often whispered of as the 'Bad Boy of Speyside,' standing in stark, muscular defiance against the region's typically light and grassy style. Founded in 1891, the distillery stubbornly clings to its traditional copper worm tubs—cold water tanks containing coiled pipes—to condense its spirit. This method limits copper contact, preserving heavy, sulfurous, and meaty compounds that give the spirit its signature weight. When this robust distillate is cradled in a first-fill bourbon barrel, like Cask No 42, a spectacular alchemy occurs. The active American oak infuses the heavy, tropical-fruit-laden spirit with intense bursts of sweet vanilla, toasted coconut, and warm baking spices, beautifully rounding out the distillery's famously defiant, savory character. This single cask bottling represents a pure, unadulterated snapshot of Craigellachie's old-school craftsmanship.

Craigellachie Distillery blev grundlagt i 1891 af whiskypionererne Peter Mackie og Alexander Edward og troner markant på et klippefremspring med udsigt over sammenløbet af floderne Spey og Fiddich. Destilleriet er tegnet af den berømte victorianske arkitekt Charles Doig og fravælger bevidst moderne destillationstendenser til fordel for en kompromisløs, fyldig og traditionel spiritusstil. Destilleriet henter sit bløde procesvand fra det nærliggende Blue Hill og benytter oliefyret bygmalt, traditionelle gæringskar af træ (washbacks) og karakteristiske udendørs worm tub-kølespiraler af kobber. Ved bevidst at begrænse kontakten mellem damp og kobber under kondenseringen indfanger Craigellachie robuste, tunge og svovlholdige aromakomponenter. Disse udvikler sig til en enestående muskuløs single malt med umamiprægede, kødfulde noter, der smukt afbalanceres af moden, tropisk ananas. Under ejerskab af Bacardi (John Dewar & Sons) og med den prisbelønnede Malt Master Stephanie Macleod i spidsen forener destilleriet sin historiske rolle i eksklusive blends med skelsættende single malts med aldersangivelse – heriblandt den klassiske 13- og 17-års samt sjældne fadlagrede vintage-aftapninger – alle tappet uden koldfiltrering ved naturlig styrke.
