Craigellachie is famously known as the 'bad boy of Speyside' due to its stubborn adherence to traditional, heavy-style whisky making. Established in 1891, the distillery continues to use traditional copper worm tubs to condense its spirit. This process limits copper contact, leaving a robust, meaty, and sulfurous character in the new-make spirit. When matured in a first-fill Sherry Hogshead, like this specific single cask, the spirit undergoes a dramatic transformation. The active sherry-seasoned European oak imparts deep layers of dark chocolate, rich dried fruits, and warming baking spices, which beautifully contrast with Craigellachie's signature tropical pineapple and flinty, struck-match notes. This single cask bottling captures a pure, unadulterated moment in the distillery's maturation history, offering a muscular and unapologetically complex dram.

Craigellachie Distillery blev grundlagt i 1891 af whiskypionererne Peter Mackie og Alexander Edward og troner markant på et klippefremspring med udsigt over sammenløbet af floderne Spey og Fiddich. Destilleriet er tegnet af den berømte victorianske arkitekt Charles Doig og fravælger bevidst moderne destillationstendenser til fordel for en kompromisløs, fyldig og traditionel spiritusstil. Destilleriet henter sit bløde procesvand fra det nærliggende Blue Hill og benytter oliefyret bygmalt, traditionelle gæringskar af træ (washbacks) og karakteristiske udendørs worm tub-kølespiraler af kobber. Ved bevidst at begrænse kontakten mellem damp og kobber under kondenseringen indfanger Craigellachie robuste, tunge og svovlholdige aromakomponenter. Disse udvikler sig til en enestående muskuløs single malt med umamiprægede, kødfulde noter, der smukt afbalanceres af moden, tropisk ananas. Under ejerskab af Bacardi (John Dewar & Sons) og med den prisbelønnede Malt Master Stephanie Macleod i spidsen forener destilleriet sin historiske rolle i eksklusive blends med skelsættende single malts med aldersangivelse – heriblandt den klassiske 13- og 17-års samt sjældne fadlagrede vintage-aftapninger – alle tappet uden koldfiltrering ved naturlig styrke.
