Craigellachie is celebrated among Scotch enthusiasts as the defiant rebel of Speyside. Established in 1891 during the late-Victorian whisky boom by Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward, the distillery sits on a cliff overlooking the junction of the rivers Fiddich and Spey. While most Speyside distilleries transitioned to modern condensers to create lighter, sweeter spirits, Craigellachie stubbornly retained its traditional copper worm tubs. These cold-water-filled wooden vats slowly condense the vapor, leaving a heavy, meaty, and sulfurous character in the spirit. This specific single cask release, matured in a refill barrel, showcases this muscular distillate in its purest form. The refill wood gently tempers the spirit over time without masking its signature notes of charred pineapple, cordite, and robust malt, offering a rare glimpse into a single, unblended moment of Craigellachie's history.
