Craigellachie is often referred to as the 'bad boy of Speyside' due to its stubbornly traditional, muscular, and sulfurous character. Established in 1891 by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie, the distillery famously clings to its old-school copper worm tubs for condensing its spirit. This cooling method limits copper contact, preserving heavy, meaty, and complex compounds that define the distillery's signature style. When aged in a refill barrel, as with this 'Full Cask' expression, the wood takes a backseat, allowing the raw, robust, and fruity distillery character to take center stage. The result is a single malt of remarkable texture, showcasing notes of grilled pineapple, sulfurous flint, and a distinct waxy mouthfeel that recalls a bygone era of Scotch whisky production.
