Craigellachie is often whispered about among whisky connoisseurs as the defiant rebel of Speyside. Founded in 1891 by the legendary Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward, the distillery sits on the cliff overlooking the confluence of the rivers Fiddich and Spey. While modern distilleries transitioned to efficient shell-and-tube condensers, Craigellachie stubbornly retained its traditional copper worm tubs. This old-school method condenses the vapor slowly, leaving a heavy, sulfurous, and muscular spirit. When this robust, meaty distillate is filled into a single Bourbon Hogshead, a fascinating alchemy occurs. Over years of slumber, the active American oak tempers the spirit's fiery, savory character, weaving in delicate threads of sweet vanilla, toasted coconut, and bright orchard fruits, while preserving the oiliness and distinctive waxy, pineapple-led core that defines Craigellachie's singular heritage.
