Craigellachie is often described as the bad boy of Speyside due to its stubborn adherence to traditional, heavy-style whisky-making. While most modern distilleries transitioned to efficient shell-and-tube condensers, Craigellachie famously retains its copper worm tubs—cold water tanks containing coiled copper pipes. This rapid cooling limits copper contact, leaving heavy, sulfurous compounds in the spirit that develop into rich, meaty, and complex notes over time. A single malt matured in a refill barrel, such as Cask No 800584, represents a purist's expression of this unique distillate. Free from the dominant vanilla of first-fill bourbon or the heavy spice of active sherry casks, the refill wood allows Craigellachie's signature muscularity, waxy texture, and surprising notes of charred pineapple and cordite to take center stage.

Craigellachie Distillery blev grundlagt i 1891 af Alexander Edward og den legendariske whiskypioner Peter Mackie.
