First released in the 1920s, Viña Real is one of the historic pillars of the legendary Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE). Named in honor of the ancient Camino Real that once ran nearby, this wine was historically distinguished by its Burgundy-style bottle—a deliberate nod to the rounder, more elegant, and highly aromatic profile of Rioja Alavesa compared to the Bordeaux-shaped Imperial from Rioja Alta. Crafted primarily from Tempranillo grown in the clay-limestone soils of Elciego and Laguardia, and complemented by small portions of Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, this Reserva Especial undergoes meticulous aging in both French and American oak casks. The result is a seamless marriage of vibrant red fruit, subtle balsamic notes, sweet spices, and a refined, velvety structure that epitomizes classic Rioja Alavesa winemaking.

Founded in 1879 by brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) is one of Rioja's foundational and most prestigious historic bodegas, headquartered in the iconic Barrio de la Estación in Haro, Spain.
