The name of this quirky white blend pays homage to a legendary South Australian invention: the stump-jump plough. Invented in the late 19th century, this clever device revolutionized local agriculture by allowing ploughshares to automatically ride over stubborn mallee stumps and rocks, saving countless hours of backbreaking labor. In a similar spirit of practical ingenuity, d'Arenberg's 'The Stump Jump' white blend brings together an unconventional quartet of grape varieties: Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, and Roussanne. By combining the zesty, aromatic drive of the first two with the rich, textured, and stone-fruited weight of the latter two Rhône varieties, winemaker Chester Osborn crafts a wine of remarkable balance and personality. The grapes are gently pressed and cool-fermented in stainless steel to lock in the bright, expressive fruit characters, resulting in a lively, multi-dimensional white that punches far above its weight class.
