✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the steep, granite-rich slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation in the Northern Rhône, Delas' 'Les Challeys' Rouge is a masterful expression of pure Syrah. The appellation itself carries a rich history, originally named after the Jesuit community of Tournon in the 17th century, who cultivated these dramatic, terraced vineyards. 'Les Challeys' is crafted from grapes sourced from select vineyard parcels, where the vines cling to thin soils over granite bedrock. To capture the vibrant, spicy character of the terroir, Delas employs traditional vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation, followed by aging in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel vats. This careful balance preserves the wine's bright red fruit profile while imparting subtle structure and complexity.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Philippe Delas, Maison Delas Frères is an iconic Rhône Valley estate headquartered in Tain-l'Hermitage. Now part of the Champagne Louis Roederer family of estates, the house underwent a major quality renaissance through modern cellar innovations and meticulous vineyard stewardship across both the Northern and Southern Rhône. Delas manages prestigious parcels across heralded appellations including Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Renowned for its precision winemaking, the estate crafts deeply expressive, terroir-driven wines, from powerful, mineral-tinged Syrahs like Les Bessards and La Landonne to aromatic, textural Viogniers like Clos Boucher.
