Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is a blended Venezuelan rum composed of 80% heavy pot still distillates and 20% light and semi-heavy column and batch kettle distillates. Distilled from sugarcane molasses and sugarcane honeys, the individual components are aged for up to 12 years in oak casks, predominantly ex-bourbon and ex-malt whiskey barrels. The final blend is characterized by a rich, sweet profile with prominent notes of orange peel, toffee, licorice, and baking spices. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1959 at the base of the Andes Mountains near Terepaima National Park, Diplomático produces world-renowned Venezuelan rums under the protected Ron de Venezuela DOC. Originally constructed under Licorerías Unidas S.A. and later operated by Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) before its acquisition by Brown-Forman, the estate leverages pure mountain spring water, intense tropical humidity, and proximity to fertile sugar-cane valleys. Diplomático employs both sugar-cane molasses and virgin sugar-cane honey, uniquely running three distinct distillation platforms: continuous Barbet columns for light spirits, batch kettles for intermediate weight, and classic copper pot stills for heavy, intensely aromatic distillates. Maturation occurs in tropical microclimates within ex-bourbon and ex-malt whisky barrels, frequently finished in Spanish sherry butts. Master Blender Nelson Hernández harmonizes these diverse distillates into complex, opulent expressions, led by the flagship Reserva Exclusiva alongside limited Prestige bottlings like Single Vintage and Ambassador Selection.
