✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the prestigious Grand Cru slopes of Alsace, Domaine Dirler-Cadé's Pinot Gris represents a masterclass in biodynamic viticulture and terroir expression. Historically referred to in Alsace folklore as 'Tokay,' a name legend says was brought to the region from Hungary by Baron Lazare de Schwendi in the 16th century, Pinot Gris finds an exceptional home in the estate's Grand Cru plots such as Kessler and Spiegel. Under the meticulous care of the Dirler family, these vines are cultivated using horse-drawn plows and biodynamic preparations to encourage deep root penetration into the complex sandstone and clay soils. The resulting wine is a far cry from simple, sweet styles; Dirler-Cadé crafts a dry, deeply structured, and mineral-driven Pinot Gris. It showcases a rich, textured palate balanced by vibrant acidity, capturing the pure, crystalline essence of the volcanic and sandstone terroirs of Bergholtz.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1871 in the southern Alsatian village of Bergholtz, Domaine Dirler-Cadé represents the union of two historic winegrowing families, merged in 2000 following the marriage of Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace, the estate converted its vineyards to biodynamics in 1998 to respect natural biodiversity and preserve soil vitality. Their prime vineyard holdings encompass historic Grands Crus—including Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering, and Spiegel—alongside distinct lieux-dits such as Belzbrunnen and Schimberg. Dirler-Cadé is globally renowned for its bone-dry, terroir-driven Rieslings, vibrant Pinot Gris, aromatic Gewurztraminers, and finely textured Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wines.
