Hailing from the Schwarzberg lieu-dit in the communal area of Bergholtz, this wine reflects a unique terroir of clay-limestone and sandstone soils. The name 'Tokay Pinot Gris' carries historical significance, recalling the centuries-old Alsatian tradition of referring to Pinot Gris as 'Tokay'—a name legally retired in 2007 to protect Hungary's Tokaji appellation. According to local legend, vines were brought to Alsace from Hungary in the 16th century by Baron Lazare de Schwendi, though modern ampelography proved the grape is actually of French origin. Domaine Dirler-Cad e crafts this wine using biodynamic viticulture, capturing the inherent richness, subtle smokiness, and deep mineral core characteristic of the Schwarzberg slope. The slow, natural fermentation and aging on fine lees yield a textured, complex white wine of great purity.

Domaine Dirler-Cadé blev grundlagt i 1871 i den sydalsaciske landsby Bergholtz og forener to historiske vinfamilier, som fandt sammen i 2000 ved ægteskabet mellem Jean Dirler og Ludivine Cadé. Vingården er en sand pioner inden for biodynamisk vinavl i Alsace og omlagde allerede sine marker til biodynamik i 1998 for at fremme den naturlige biodiversitet og bevare jordbundens vitalitet. Familiens fremragende parceller tæller historiske Grand Cru-marker som Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering og Spiegel samt markante lieux-dits som Belzbrunnen og Schimberg. Dirler-Cadé nyder stor international anerkendelse for sine knastørre, terroirprægede Riesling-vine, ranke Pinot Gris, aromatiske Gewurztraminer og fint strukturerede Crémant d'Alsace-mousserende vine.
