Domaine des Comtes Lafon's Meursault 'D sir e' is a captivating lieu-dit white wine that showcases a unique facet of the Meursault appellation. Located on the lower slopes bordering Puligny-Montrachet, the 'D sir e' vineyard features richer, clay-dominant soils that depart from the typical limestone-heavy profile of the region. This terroir imparts a distinctively exotic, highly aromatic, and opulent character to the Chardonnay grapes grown here. Historically, this parcel has been cherished for producing a wine of immense charm and immediate appeal, filled with notes of white flowers, stone fruits, and subtle spices. Established in 1869 by the Boch family and formally developed by Comte Jules Lafon following his marriage to Marie Boch in 1894, Domaine des Comtes Lafon is an undisputed benchmark of Meursault. In the mid-1980s, fourth-generation vigneron Dominique Lafon reclaimed historical family parcels from sharecroppers, pioneering a conversion to certified organic viticulture in 1995 and full biodynamics by 1998. Today, the 16.3-hectare Côte de Beaune estate is directed by the fifth generation, Léa and Pierre Lafon. The domaine boasts exceptional holdings across premier crus—including Genevrières, Perrières, and Charmes—alongside the monopole Clos de la Barre, prime red terroirs in Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu, and a cherished parcel of Grand Cru Le Montrachet acquired in 1919. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in modest proportions of new French oak in cold, deep cellars, Lafon's Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs achieve crystalline terroir expression, textural breadth, and profound ageability.
