✨ Technical Specifications
Domaine Zind Humbrecht's Pinot Gris is a masterclass in the rich, texturally complex style that has defined Alsace for centuries. Historically known in the region as 'Tokay d'Alsace'—a name associated with the legend of Baron Lazare de Schwendi, who supposedly brought vines back from Hungary in the 16th century—the grape finds an ideal home in the estate's biodynamically farmed soils. Crafted with minimal intervention, the wine undergoes an incredibly slow, natural fermentation in traditional, large oak foudres, often lasting up to a year. This patient process coaxes out Pinot Gris's signature smoky, honeyed, and stone-fruit character, balanced by a vibrant, terroir-driven acidity and a deep, mineral-rich finish that reflects the diverse volcanic and limestone soils of the region.
🍾 About the Producer
Domaine Zind Humbrecht was established in 1959 through the merger of two historic Alsatian winemaking families whose viticultural heritage dates back to 1620. Located in Turckheim in the heart of Alsace, the estate gained international renown under the stewardship of Léonard Humbrecht and subsequently his son Olivier Humbrecht, France's first Master of Wine. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture, the domaine strictly crafts terroir-driven white wines with minimal intervention from legendary Grand Cru and lieu-dit sites such as Rangen de Thann, Clos Windsbuhl, and Hengst. They are celebrated globally for their extraordinarily concentrated, mineral-rich expressions of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, ranging from impeccably balanced dry wines to opulent Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles.
