Sourced from the esteemed Tondre Grapefield in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, this Chardonnay is a testament to the vision of late winegrowing pioneer Tondre Alarid and his son Joe, who planted the vineyard in 1997. The site is defined by its close proximity to Monterey Bay, where the deep marine canyon funnels cool winds and morning fog directly through the vines. This natural air conditioning slows ripening, allowing the grapes to develop deep, concentrated flavors while retaining a vibrant, structural acidity. Dominion Tantara crafts this wine using classic Burgundian techniques, including barrel fermentation and regular lees stirring (bâtonnage), resulting in a Chardonnay of remarkable texture, complexity, and elegance that beautifully marries California sun with cool-climate restraint.

Dominion Tantara (oprindeligt grundlagt som Tantara Winery) blev etableret i 1997 af Bill Cates og Jeff Fink fra Virginia, forenet af en fælles passion for bourgognesorter i køligt klima. Med base på det historiske Rancho Tepusquet på Santa Maria Valleys berømte Bien Nacido Vineyard henter vinhuset druer fra absolutte elite-terroirs på Central Coast, herunder Dierberg, Talley Rincon, Zotovich og gamle vinstokke på Bien Nacido. Området nyder godt af de tværgående øst-vest-vendte maritime korridorer, som leder morgentåge og kølige vinde fra Stillehavet ind over skråningernes sandede lerjord, hvilket giver druerne en lang modningsperiode på vinstokken og bevarer en naturlig, spændstig syre. Markarbejdet hviler på bæredygtige principper med omhyggelig løvvægspleje, mens vinfremstillingen i kælderen følger traditionelle burgundiske metoder med minimal intervention: gæring med hele drueklaser, spontangæring med naturgær og modning på tætkornede franske egetræsbarriques. Husets referencevine tæller enkeltmarksudgaver som Bien Nacido Vineyard O Block Chardonnay, Zotovich Vineyard Chardonnay og Dierberg Vineyard Pinot Noir, der er højt værdsat for deres ranke nerve, krystalklare mineralitet og dybe, krydrede aromaprofil.
