The Bernkasteler Doctor is one of the world's most legendary vineyards, a brutally steep, south-facing slope of Devonian blue slate overlooking the Mosel River. Its name originates from a 14th-century legend in which Archbishop Boemund II of Trier was miraculously cured of a terminal illness by drinking wine from this site, declaring the vineyard to be 'the true doctor.' Dr. Loosen crafts this exquisite Auslese from 100% Riesling grapes, utilizing old, ungrafted vines. The grapes are harvested late in the season, with a significant portion affected by noble rot (botrytis). This results in a luscious, sweet, and highly concentrated nectar that is beautifully balanced by the Mosel's trademark vibrant, electric acidity and a deep, smoky slate minerality.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
