✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the legendary, precipitous slopes of the Mosel, Dr. Loosen's Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is a masterclass in tension and sweetness. The 'Juffer' (meaning 'virgin') vineyard name pays homage to the three unmarried daughters of an 18th-century local nobleman who preferred tending their family's vines over marriage. Within this historic site lies the 'Sonnenuhr' (sundial) parcel, a steep, south-facing amphitheater of pure Devonian blue slate. This unique terroir acts as a solar collector, radiating heat back to the 100% Riesling grapes and fostering the noble rot essential for Auslese. Dr. Loosen crafts this wine using traditional methods, fermenting with native yeasts to preserve the vineyard's intense minerality, rich stone fruit character, and electric acidity.
🍾 About the Producer
The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
