The Erdener Prälat is legendary among Mosel vineyards, a tiny, sun-drenched amphitheater of red slate that sits directly above the river, capturing maximum heat and light. Named after the church prelates who historically claimed this prized parcel, it yields Riesling of unparalleled intensity. Dr. Loosen's Auslese Goldkapsel is crafted only in exceptional vintages from highly botrytized grapes, meticulously selected by hand. The red slate soil imparts a unique, fiery minerality and exotic spice to the wine, which is fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional oak Fuder casks. This creates a luxurious, nectar-like white wine where opulent sweetness is perfectly counterbalanced by a laser-like, vibrant acidity.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
