Nestled in a dramatic bend of the Mosel River, the Erdener Pr$lat is a legendary, tiny grand cru vineyard of just 1.5 hectares. Facing south-southeast on an incredibly steep slope, its red slate soils absorb the intense heat of the sun, insulated by massive cliffs above. This unique microclimate yields Riesling of extraordinary ripeness and concentration. Historically, the vineyard's name refers to the high-ranking church prelates who claimed its prized wines for their own cellars. Dr. Loosen's Auslese Lange Goldkapsel (Long Gold Cap) represents an ultra-selective harvest of botrytis-affected grapes, fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional Fuder casks. The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
