The Erdener Prälat is one of the Mosel's most legendary vineyards, a tiny, sun-drenched amphitheater of red slate protected by towering cliffs. Legend has it that the vineyard was named after the church prelates who historically claimed its exceptional wines for themselves. Dr. Loosen's 'Reserve' GG (Grosses Gewächs) Alte Reben is crafted from ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines that are over a century old. This dry masterpiece undergoes a traditional, minimalist winemaking process, aging on its full lees for an extraordinary 24 months in neutral oak Fuder casks, followed by extensive bottle aging. This extended contact with the lees imparts a profound textural richness and creamy complexity, beautifully balancing the intense, fiery minerality of the red slate and the vibrant, noble acidity of the old-vine Riesling.
