✨ Technical Specifications
The Erdener Treppchen vineyard, meaning 'the little staircase of Erden', is named after the stone steps carved directly into the sheer, red slate cliffs of the Mosel valley to help vineyard workers navigate the dizzying slopes. Dr. Loosen's Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Nr27 represents the pinnacle of this site's unique terroir. Unlike the blue slate found elsewhere in the Mosel, the iron-rich red slate of Erden imparts an intense, muscular minerality, exotic spice, and rich stone fruit character to the Riesling grapes. The 'Goldkapsel' indicates a super-selective harvesting of botrytized grapes, resulting in a luscious, sweet nectar of extraordinary concentration. Fermented slowly with native yeasts in traditional oak Fuder casks, this rare bottling showcases the perfect harmony of opulent sweetness and vibrant, electric acidity.
🍾 About the Producer
The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
