Nestled in the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Mosel Valley, the Graacher Himmelreich—or Kingdom of Heaven—vineyard yields a Riesling of celestial complexity. Dr. Loosen, a historic estate managed by the visionary Ernst Loosen, crafts this Auslese from 100% Riesling grapes grown on deep, water-retaining blue Devonian slate soils. This unique terroir imparts a distinct, stony minerality and a vibrant, citrus-led acidity that beautifully balances the wine's natural sweetness. Hand-selected at harvest, often featuring a portion of botrytis-affected berries, the grapes undergo traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts in large, neutral oak casks. The result is a wine steeped in Mosel heritage, offering a rich tapestry of stone fruit, wild honey, and wet-stone minerality.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
