✨ Technical Specifications
Crafted by the visionary Ernst Loosen, this exquisite Riesling hails from the legendary Wehlener Sonnenuhr (Sundial of Wehlen) vineyard, famous for its dizzyingly steep slopes and pure blue Devonian slate soils. The vineyard takes its name from the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Pruem to guide the daily rhythm of the vineyard workers. The Nr44 designation represents a highly selective, historically significant bottling of Auslese, showcasing grapes heavily influenced by noble rot (botrytis). Fermented naturally in traditional, neutral oak Fuder casks, this 100% Riesling captures the essence of its terroir: a breathtaking tightrope walk between luscious, honeyed peach sweetness and a piercing, stony minerality driven by vibrant Mosel acidity.
🍾 About the Producer
The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay. Dr. Loosen is globally celebrated for producing pure, expressive, and age-worthy Rieslings that range from vibrant dry bottlings to lusciously complex, mineral-laced Prädikat and dessert wines.
