Typically best enjoyed 5 to 15 years from the vintage release, though top vintages can easily cellar for 20 years or more as they develop exquisite secondary notes of petrol, beeswax, and dried stone fruits.

Hailing from the legendary Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard—named for the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Prüm to guide vineyard workers—this Grosses Gewächs (GG) represents the pinnacle of dry Mosel Riesling. Dr. Loosen crafts this masterpiece from 'Alte Reben' (ancient, ungrafted vines averaging over 100 years old) rooted precariously in steep, pure blue Devonian slate soils. These old vines yield tiny, highly concentrated berries. To honor this exceptional fruit, the wine is fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts and aged on its lees in traditional 1,000-liter oak Fuder casks, resulting in a dry Riesling of breathtaking mineral intensity, vibrant acidity, and deep, layered complexity.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate, located in Bernkastel-Kues in the Mosel region of Germany, has been in the same family for over two centuries. Since taking ownership in 1988, Ernst Loosen has propelled the winery to international acclaim by focusing on the estate's extraordinary heritage of ungrafted, old Riesling vines—some over 120 years old—situated in historic grand cru sites such as Erdener Pr$lat, $rziger W$rzgarten, and Bernkasteler Lay. The winery's philosophy centers on minimalist winemaking and a deep respect for the region's diverse slate soils, which yield intensely mineral-driven, expressive wines. Dr. Loosen is globally renowned for its precise, elegant Rieslings, spanning from dry (Trocken) styles to exquisitely concentrated sweet expressions like Auslese, Beerenauslese, and rare Eisweins.
