La Landonne is arguably the most powerful, structured, and long-lived of E. Guigal's legendary trio of single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie wines, affectionately known as the 'La Las.' Established on the steep, iron-rich limestone clay slopes of the Côte Brune, this remarkable vineyard was planted by Marcel Guigal in 1975 to mark the birth of his son, Philippe, with the inaugural vintage debuting in 1978. Unlike its siblings, La Landonne is crafted from 100% Syrah, eschewing any Viognier co-fermentation. The grapes undergo a long, traditional fermentation before spending an astonishing 42 months in 100% new French oak barrels crafted in the estate's private cooperage. The result is a monumental wine of immense concentration, brooding dark fruit, black pepper, leather, and roasted meat notes, supported by a formidable tannic spine that demands patience.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, Domaine E. Guigal has become one of the Rhône Valley's most illustrious and influential wine estates. Now managed by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the family is headquartered at the historic Château d'Ampuis, where they craft legendary wines that define the northern and southern Rhône. The estate is globally renowned for its iconic Côte-Rôtie single-vineyard bottlings—La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne—as well as the opulent Condrieu La Doriane. Their uncompromising production philosophy emphasizes extremely long barrel aging in their custom, in-house cooperage, resulting in wines of extraordinary depth, structure, and longevity.
