✨ wine.spec_sheet
The estate of Le Gallais, nestled in the Wiltinger Braune Kupp vineyard, was acquired by the legendary Egon Müller family in 1954, preserving one of the Saar's most historic terroirs. Unlike the cool, grey slate of the famous Scharzhofberg, the Braune Kupp (meaning 'brown crest') is characterized by iron-rich, reddish-brown slate soils on a steep, south-facing amphitheater overlooking the Saar River. This unique geology produces a Riesling of distinct opulence, warmth, and wild-berry spice. The 'Goldkapsel' designation indicates an exceptionally concentrated selection of botrytised grapes, while the 'Auktion' label signifies a micro-lot of ultimate prestige, sold exclusively at the annual VDP auction in Trier. Crafted using traditional wooden Fuder casks and wild yeasts, this wine is a masterclass in tension, combining decadent, honeyed sweetness with a laser-like, electric acidity.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
