✨ wine.spec_sheet

The Wiltinger Braune Kupp is a legendary steep vineyard site situated on a sharp bend of the Saar River, a tributary of the Mosel. Historically associated with the Le Gallais estate, which was acquired by the iconic Egon Müller family in 1954, this vineyard is celebrated for its unique terroir. Unlike the grey slate of the nearby Scharzhofberg, the Braune Kupp ('Brown Dome') is characterized by iron-rich, reddish-brown slate and clay soils. This distinctive soil composition, combined with a warm south-southeast exposure, yields a Riesling of remarkable power, deep spicy complexity, and rich stone-fruit character. Crafted as an Auslese, this wine represents a meticulous selection of botrytis-affected grapes, vinified using traditional neutral oak Fuder casks. The result is a masterclass in tension, balancing luscious natural sweetness with the Saar's signature electric acidity.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
