The estate of Egon Müller, nestled in the Saar valley of the Mosel, is widely regarded as the spiritual home of noble sweet Riesling. With roots tracing back to the medieval monastery of St. Paul in Trier, the estate survived the French Revolution to become a global beacon of winemaking excellence. The Scharzhof Riesling Auslese Fuder 18 Auktion represents an ultra-exclusive, auction-only bottling of legendary status. Sourced from the steep, weathered Devonian slate slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, this wine is fermented in traditional 1,000-liter oak casks known as Fuder. Cask 18 is historically selected for its extraordinary balance of rich noble rot and the piercing, electric acidity characteristic of the cool Saar climate. The result is a wine of unmatched complexity, offering notes of candied citrus, wild honey, and intense stony minerality, preserved by a natural sweetness that remains perfectly weightless on the palate.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
