Egon Müller is widely regarded as the spiritual high priest of Mosel Riesling, operating from the historic Scharzhof estate in the Saar valley, which has roots tracing back to the 11th-century Benedictine monastery of St. Marien ad Martyres. The 'Scharzhof' Riesling QbA serves as the estate's calling card, crafted from estate-owned vineyards in Wiltingen, Oberemmel, and Saarburg, along with declassified fruit from the legendary Scharzhofberg grand cru. Grown on steep, slate-rich slopes in a cool microclimate, the 100% Riesling grapes are fermented in traditional old oak Fuder casks. This wine beautifully captures the Saar's signature tension: a brilliant interplay of razor-sharp acidity, delicate residual sweetness, and intense slate minerality, accented by notes of white peach, green apple, and wild blossoms.
