Egon Müller is a legendary name synonymous with the absolute pinnacle of German Riesling. Located in the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, the estate's history dates back to the late 18th century when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the property after it was confiscated from the monastery of St. Pauli during the French Revolution. The 'Scharzhof' bottling serves as the estate's prestigious entry-level Riesling, crafted from grapes grown in estate-owned vineyards across Wiltingen, Saarburg, and Wawern. Fermented using indigenous yeasts in traditional old oak casks, this 100% Riesling showcases the cool-climate tension of the Saar. It is celebrated for its brilliant balance of vibrant, electric acidity, slate-driven minerality, and delicate off-dry sweetness.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
