Deep in the Saar valley, a sub-region of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, widely regarded as one of the greatest white wine terroirs on Earth. Cultivated since monastic times in the 11th century, this south-facing slope of grey and red Devonian slate is the spiritual home of Egon Müller. The estate's history is steeped in lore, dating back to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the estate after French revolutionary forces secularized church properties. Today, under Egon Müller IV, the estate produces this mythical Auslese Goldkapsel. Crafted from 100% Riesling, often from extremely old, ungrafted vines, this wine is made only in exceptional vintages where noble rot (botrytis) develops perfectly. The 'Goldkapsel' (Gold Capsule) denotes an auction-reserve bottling of extraordinary concentration, sweetness, and acidity. Fermented in traditional neutral oak Fuder casks, it represents the absolute pinnacle of Mosel Riesling, balancing intense, honeyed richness with a crystalline, saline minerality and electric acidity.
