✨ wine.spec_sheet
Perched on the steep, weathered grey slate slopes of the Saar, the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard produces what many consider the pinnacle of German Riesling. Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Versteigerung is a wine of mythical status, crafted only in exceptional vintages from meticulously hand-selected, botrytized grapes. The 'Goldkapsel' denotes a selection of extraordinary richness, while 'Versteigerung' indicates it is reserved exclusively for the historic annual VDP auction in Trier. The estate's history dates back to the 11th-century Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul, with the Müller family preserving these ancient traditions since 1797. Fermented in traditional oak Fuder casks, this wine achieves a breathtaking, gravity-defying balance between luscious, honeyed sweetness and a piercing, electric mineral acidity that is unique to the cool microclimate of the Saar.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
