✨ Technical Specifications

Egon Muller's Scharzhofberg is widely regarded as one of the most legendary white wine vineyards in the world. Located on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Saar valley, this grand terroir is characterized by its weathered grey slate soils, which impart a distinct, intense minerality to the wines. The estate's history is deeply rooted in antiquity, originating with the Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul in Trier before the Muller family acquired the property in 1797. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese is crafted from meticulously hand-selected grapes affected by noble rot (botrytis). Fermented in traditional large oak casks (Fuder) with minimal intervention, this 100% Riesling represents the pinnacle of balance between luscious, honeyed sweetness and a vibrant, electric acidity that is characteristic of the cool Saar climate.

🍾 About the Producer

Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof traces its heritage to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the historic estate, nestled in Wiltingen along the Saar valley within Germany's famed Mosel region. Handed down across generations, the estate is celebrated globally under the stewardship of Egon Müller IV, who maintains a deeply traditional approach emphasizing pristine vineyard management, late harvesting, and minimal cellar intervention. The estate is crowned by its holdings in the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, home to pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Riesling vines grown on steep, slate soils. Egon Müller is globally acclaimed for producing arguably the purest, most ageworthy, and aristocratic sweet Rieslings in existence, ranging from exquisite Spätlese and Auslese to mythical, auction-commanding Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
