✨ Technical Specifications

The Scharzhofberg is arguably Germany's most legendary vineyard, situated on a steep, south-facing slope in the chilly Saar valley. Owned in part by the Egon Müller estate since 1797—following the secularization of church lands formerly held by the Benedictine monastery of St. Marien in Trier—this grand terroir of weathered grey Devonian slate produces Rieslings of unmatched tension and longevity. The Auslese Nr30 is a rare, highly coveted bottling, often associated with the prestigious Trier wine auctions, crafted from meticulously hand-selected, botrytis-affected grapes. Fermented in traditional old oak casks using native yeasts, this 100% Riesling captures a perfect storm of luscious residual sweetness, intense noble rot complexity, and an electrifying, laser-like acidity that is the hallmark of the Saar's cool microclimate.

🍾 About the Producer

Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof traces its heritage to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the historic estate, nestled in Wiltingen along the Saar valley within Germany's famed Mosel region. Handed down across generations, the estate is celebrated globally under the stewardship of Egon Müller IV, who maintains a deeply traditional approach emphasizing pristine vineyard management, late harvesting, and minimal cellar intervention. The estate is crowned by its holdings in the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, home to pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Riesling vines grown on steep, slate soils. Egon Müller is globally acclaimed for producing arguably the purest, most ageworthy, and aristocratic sweet Rieslings in existence, ranging from exquisite Spätlese and Auslese to mythical, auction-commanding Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
