Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberger Riesling Beerenauslese Goldkapsel represents the absolute pinnacle of sweet winemaking, born from one of the wine world's most hallowed terroirs. Situated in the cool Saar valley of the Mosel region, the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard features steep, south-facing slopes composed of weathered grey Devonian slate. This unique microclimate, combined with ancient, often ungrafted Riesling vines, allows for the slow, perfect development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). The estate's history stretches back to medieval monks before being acquired by the Müller family in the late 18th century. The 'Goldkapsel' designation denotes an exceptionally select, concentrated bottling of Beerenauslese, traditionally reserved for the estate's finest barrels and sold almost exclusively at auction. Hand-harvested berry by berry, this liquid gold balances intense, honeyed sweetness with an electric, vibrating acidity that is hallmark to the Scharzhofberg terroir.
