✨ wine.spec_sheet

Sourced from the legendary, south-facing Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Saar valley, Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben represents the pinnacle of Mosel winemaking. The estate's history is deeply intertwined with monastic heritage, having been acquired by the Müller family in 1797 following the French Revolution's secularization of church properties. This rare 'Alte Reben' bottling is crafted from exceptionally old, sometimes ungrafted Riesling vines rooted in weathered Devonian slate. These ancient vines yield tiny, concentrated berries that undergo spontaneous fermentation in traditional neutral oak Fuder casks. The resulting wine is a masterclass in tension, balancing a delicate, off-dry sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity and a profound, smoky mineral depth that whispers of its historic terroir.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
