The estate of Egon Muller, situated on the historic Scharzhof hill in the Saar valley, is widely regarded as the pinnacle of German winemaking. The Scharzhofberg vineyard itself has a rich history dating back to medieval times when it was planted by the monks of the Saint Paul Abbey in Trier. This specific bottling, the Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett, represents the epitome of Saar Riesling: a masterclass in tension, low alcohol, and vibrant energy. Grown on steep, weathered grey Devonian slate soils in a cool microclimate, the grapes yield a wine of crystalline purity. The 'Nr3' designation typically denotes a highly sought-after, limited-production auction bottling or a specific fuder selection of exceptional character. Fermented in traditional old oak casks using indigenous yeasts, the wine beautifully balances natural residual sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity, offering notes of green apple, white peach, wet stone, and white flowers.
