✨ wine.spec_sheet

Hailing from one of the wine world's most sacred sites, the Scharzhofberg vineyard in the Saar valley, this legendary Riesling is crafted by the iconic Egon Müller estate. The history of the Scharzhof estate stretches back to the medieval monks of St. Pauli monastery in Trier, with the Müller family stewardship beginning in 1797. This rare 'Alte Reben' (Old Vines) bottling is sourced from ancient, ungrafted Riesling vines that dig deep into the weathered grey Devonian slate soils. In the cool microclimate of the Saar, these old vines yield minuscule quantities of highly concentrated fruit. Fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts in traditional 1,000-liter oak 'Fuder' casks, the wine represents the pinnacle of the Spätlese category, balancing an ethereal sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity and a profound, smoky mineral depth that is uniquely Scharzhofberg.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
