✨ wine.spec_sheet

Deep in the Saar valley, a tributary of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, a site of viticultural pilgrimage since the Middle Ages when it was tended by Benedictine monks of St. Paul. Acquired by the Müller family in the late 18th century, this grand terroir is characterized by weathered grey slate and an exceptionally cool microclimate that coaxes unmatched tension and complexity from the Riesling grape. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is crafted from late-harvested grapes, often including a portion of botrytis-affected fruit, fermented in traditional old oak Fuder casks. The 'Nr. 14' designation represents a highly prized, select bottling of exceptional purity. It is a masterclass in balance, where intense natural sweetness is perfectly countered by a piercing, electric acidity and a profound, smoky mineral backbone.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
