Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberg is widely regarded as the pinnacle of German viticulture, situated on a steep, south-facing slate slope in the cool Saar valley. The estate's history dates back to the medieval Benedictine monks of St. Paul in Trier, before being acquired by the Müller family in 1797. The 'Nr 2' designation typically indicates a highly prized auction bottling or a specific fuder selection of 100% Riesling, representing an even more refined, concentrated expression. Fermented in traditional old oak fuders with native yeasts, this Spätlese captures the legendary tension of Scharzhofberg: an exquisite play between rich, residual sweetness and a piercing, mineral-driven acidity derived from the weathered grey slate soils.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
