Deep in the Saar valley, a tributary of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, widely regarded as one of the greatest white wine terroirs on Earth. The estate of Egon Müller has been the custodian of this steep, south-facing slope of weathered grey slate since 1797, when the family acquired the land following its confiscation from the monastic order of St. Pauli during the French Revolution. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is an iconic representation of this terroir. Crafted from 100% Riesling grapes, some from extremely old, ungrafted vines, the wine is fermented in traditional large oak Fuder casks with minimal intervention. The cool Saar microclimate preserves a thrilling, electric acidity that perfectly balances the natural residual sweetness of the late-harvest grapes. This tension creates a wine of ethereal lightness, intense minerality, and profound complexity, marked by notes of white peach, wet stone, and white flowers.

Historien bag Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof strækker sig tilbage til 1797, hvor Jean-Jacques Koch erhvervede den historiske ejendom i Wiltingen, beliggende i Saar-dalen i Tysklands berømte Mosel-region. Vingården er gået i arv gennem generationer og har i dag opnået verdensry under ledelse af Egon Müller IV. Han værner kompromisløst om de stolte traditioner med fokus på minutiøst markarbejde, sen høst og minimal indgriben i vinkælderen. Juvelen i kronen er husets parceller på den legendariske Scharzhofberg-mark, hvor ældgamle, rodægte Riesling-vinstokke fra før vinlusens tid klamrer sig til de stejle skråninger af skifer.
