The Scharzhofberg is arguably Germany's most famous vineyard, situated in the cool Saar valley where slate soils and steep slopes yield Rieslings of unmatched tension and longevity. Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese Nr. 29 represents a pinnacle of this style, often associated with highly coveted auction bottlings selected from the estate's finest casks. Crafted from low-yielding, old vines, the wine is fermented with native yeasts in traditional 1,000-liter oak casks (Fuder). This specific bottling showcases an exquisite tension between vibrant, electric acidity and luscious residual sweetness, underpinned by a profound, smoky slate minerality. The history of the Scharzhofberg estate dates back to the 11th century when it was managed by the Benedictine monastery of St. Paulin in Trier, and under Egon Müller's stewardship, it has become a global benchmark for fine wine.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
