✨ wine.spec_sheet

Deep in the Saar valley, a sub-region of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, widely regarded as one of the world's premier white wine terroirs. The estate of Egon Müller, which has tended these vines since 1797 following the post-French Revolution secularization of church properties, crafts Rieslings of unparalleled precision. The Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese, particularly special auction bottlings like the 'Nr37' (referencing specific Fuder casks or AP numbers destined for the prestigious Trier auctions), is made from 100% Riesling grapes. Grown on steep, weathered grey slate soils, the vines benefit from a cool, wind-swept microclimate that preserves jaw-dropping acidity. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional old oak casks (Fuder), this wine represents the pinnacle of the Prädikat system, balancing luscious natural residual sweetness with a vibrant, electric mineral core and notes of white peach, petrol, and wet stone.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
