Egon Müller’s Scharzhofberg Riesling Spätlese is one of the most revered white wines in the world, originating from the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard in the cool Saar valley of the Mosel region. This historic estate, managed by the Müller family since 1797 after being seized from the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul during the French Revolution, benefits from deep, weathered grey slate soils and steep, south-facing slopes. The 'Nr 38' designation refers to a highly coveted, limited-production auction bottling representing an exceptional parcel or cask selection. Crafted from 100% Riesling, often including extremely old, ungrafted vines, the wine is fermented in traditional neutral oak fuders. It showcases a breathtaking tension between residual sweetness and piercing, electric acidity, wrapped in intense slate minerality and complex notes of white peach, petrol, and white flowers.
