The Scharzhofberg vineyard is one of the most legendary white wine terroirs on earth, situated on a cold, wind-swept south-facing slope in the Saar valley. Originally planted by the Romans and later cultivated by the Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul in Trier, this historic site was acquired by the Müller family in 1797 following the secularization of church lands under Napoleon. Today, Egon Müller IV meticulously crafts this 100% Riesling Spätlese, utilizing traditional wooden Fuder casks and minimal intervention. The weathered grey slate soils and cool microclimate produce a wine of unparalleled tension, where intense residual sweetness is perfectly balanced by a vibrant, electric acidity and a profound, smoky mineral core.
