✨ wine.spec_sheet

The estate of Egon Müller is the undisputed royalty of the Saar valley, with a winemaking heritage at the Scharzhof site tracing back to the Benedictine monks of St. Paul in Trier in the late 18th century. The Scharzhofberg is a legendary, entirely south-facing steep slope of weathered grey slate that yields Riesling of unparalleled precision, mineral intensity, and longevity. The Spätlese bottlings, including rare auction lots like the 'Nr. 7', are crafted from late-harvested grapes, often incorporating a touch of botrytis, and fermented in traditional old oak Fuder casks. This wine represents a masterclass in tension, balancing luscious natural sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity that is unique to this cool-climate terroir.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
