Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese Versteigerung represents the absolute pinnacle of the Saar valley's winemaking heritage. The legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, with its steep, south-facing slopes of weathered grey Devonian slate, has been revered since monastic times, when it was cultivated by the Abbey of St. Paul in Trier. This specific bottling is an 'Auction' (Versteigerung) wine, selected from the estate's finest casks to be sold exclusively at the annual VDP auction in Trier. Crafted from 100% Riesling, often from extremely old, ungrafted vines, the wine undergoes a natural fermentation in traditional oak Fuder. The result is a breathtakingly complex white wine that marries electric, crystalline acidity with delicate residual sweetness, showcasing intense slate minerality, white peach, and wild floral notes.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
