✨ Technical Specifications

Egon Müller's Scharzhofberg is widely regarded as the pinnacle of German Riesling, situated in the cool Saar valley of the Mosel region. The Scharzhofberg vineyard itself has a rich history dating back to medieval times when it was cultivated by the monastery of St. Paul in Trier. Following the French Revolution, the Müller family acquired the estate in 1797. The 'Vv' designation refers to 'Versteigerung' (Auction), indicating an ultra-rare, highly selective bottling sourced from the estate's oldest, often ungrafted vines ('Alte Reben'). This Spätlese is crafted using traditional methods, utilizing old oak Fuder casks and natural yeasts. It represents a breathtaking masterclass in tension, balancing intense natural residual sweetness with a piercing, mineral-driven acidity derived from the steep, weathered grey slate soils of the Scharzhofberg hill.

🍾 About the Producer

Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof traces its heritage to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the historic estate, nestled in Wiltingen along the Saar valley within Germany's famed Mosel region. Handed down across generations, the estate is celebrated globally under the stewardship of Egon Müller IV, who maintains a deeply traditional approach emphasizing pristine vineyard management, late harvesting, and minimal cellar intervention. The estate is crowned by its holdings in the legendary Scharzhofberg vineyard, home to pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Riesling vines grown on steep, slate soils. Egon Müller is globally acclaimed for producing arguably the purest, most ageworthy, and aristocratic sweet Rieslings in existence, ranging from exquisite Spätlese and Auslese to mythical, auction-commanding Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
