⏳ wine.drinking_window

This monumental sweet wine possesses near-immortal aging potential. While it can be appreciated in its youth for its intense primary fruit, it typically reaches its peak complexity between 20 to 60+ years after the vintage, and well-stored bottles can easily cellar for a century.

🍽️ wine.food_pairings

Artisanal blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Stilton, rich foie gras, and classic fruit tarts or caramelized apple desserts.

✨ wine.spec_sheet

Deep in the Saar valley, a tributary of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg hill, a vineyard of mythical status. Cultivated since Roman times and once owned by the monastery of St. Pauli, this steep, south-facing slope of weathered Devonian slate is the birthplace of Egon Müller's crowning achievement: the Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Goldkapsel. The Müller family, stewards of this estate since 1797, crafts this rare elixir only in exceptional vintages when noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) perfectly shrivels the Riesling grapes. Each berry is painstakingly hand-harvested, berry by berry, by highly skilled pickers. The Goldkapsel designation denotes an extraordinary lot of even greater concentration and purity. The resulting wine is a sublime, viscous nectar where intense sweetness is electrified by a laser-like, vibrant acidity, offering complex aromas of dried apricots, honey, saffron, and crushed slate.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
